Centennial Conference: Hopkins wins

Hopkins beat Swarthmore 5-0 today to secure the Centennial Conference spot in the NCAA draw. The victory wasn’t a surprise, though its comprehensiveness was. Swat went down quietly at first and second doubles, almost pulled out a victory at third, and then was blown out in the at first and fourth singles to give Hopkins the victory.

NCAA draws are announced tomorrow. It seems unlikely that Swarthmore will secure an at large bid, even less likely for Haverford. I would be surprised, but not shocked, if Haverford’s Alex Buxbaum gets into the singles draw. He beat Mary Washington’s and Hopkins’ number 1s this season, both of whom have national singles rankings.

I’ll be interested to see how far Hopkins can go. They’ve dominated their conference. Is their conference really that weak? Or is Hopkins that strong? We’ll soon find out.
